| Description | 180˚ Farm, a non-profit organization, will host two spring workshops on Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st, 2010. Workshops will be led by Jay Salinas, former Co-Director of the highly acclaimed Growing Power in Milwaukee, He will teach an economical way to construct hoop houses on March 20th from 8am to 5pm and the art of soil management and nutrition (composting)on March 21st from 12:30pm to 5PM.
12- 12:30 Introduction to composting
12:30-3:00 Making compost piles or bins or windrows
3-5:00- Vermi-composting
Why should I grow with compost?
* Compost contains valuable macro and micronutrients often absent in synthetic fertilizers.
* Plants grown in compost are better for the environment and contain more nutrition.
* Compost holds moisture longer allowing you to water less.
* Compost enriched soils have many beneficial insects, worms and other organisms keeping the soil aerated
Specific directions will be sent out prior to the event.
