| Description | Since 1996 the Southern Seed Legacy has been hosting an Old Timey Seed Swap at the Grove Creek Farm (formerly Agrarian Connections Farm) near the small town of Crawford in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Our small organization, based out of the anthropology department at the University of Georgia, strives to reverse the erosion of plant genetic diversity and cultural knowledge in the American South by encouraging and supporting local seed saving exchange networks and in situ conservation. The purpose of our seed swaps is to facilitate networking among gardeners and farmers who grow heirloom plants with the hope that the exchange of knowledge, seeds, and enthusiasm will help toward the preservation of unique southern heirloom plant varieties. However, we highly encourage everyone to come check it out! You do not need to have seeds to swap or experience- our swaps are also a great chance to come enjoy the spring weather, eat some slow cooked BBQ, and listen to some live bluegrass music! Although we encourage seeds to be swapped and not sold in the spirit of our organization, we highly encourage vendors to come out with crafts, produce, and plantlets to sell (sorry we cannot provide tables and chairs). We hope to see you April 24 from 3-8 PM! |
